Program Description
This program teaches the student computer literacy, word processing, medical terminology medical office procedures, coding and billing. Graduates of this program will be able to perform administrative duties within a medical office: physician’s offices, clinics, HMOs or other ambulatory care facilities.
This program prepares the student to gain entry-level employment in a medical office or hospital environment. Graduates of the program are employable as Coding and Billing Specialists, Administrative Medical Assistants or Medical Office Receptionists.
Course Content
MAA100 Computer Keyboarding and Literacy
(30 Instruction Hours)
This course covers basic keyboarding, stressing both speed and accuracy. Additional production typing techniques are learned which include: business letters, styles, business forms, reports, manuscripts tabulations and rough drafts. The course also is designed to introduce the student to the use of IBM PCs and “compatibles”. It will give the student a clear understanding of computer functions and tasks within the windows environment.
MAA150 Medical Terminology
(45 Instruction Hours)
This is a comprehensive course that provides an introduction to the basic structure of medical words allowing the student to build a professional vocabulary for the working medical professional. Students will learn word structure as well as prefixes, suffixes, roots, combining forms, and the formation of plurals. Emphasis is placed on spelling, definition of medical terms and correct pronunciation.
