Program Description
Upon completion of this program, the student should have acquired the confidence and skills necessary to function as a competent Medical Assistant in any healthcare facility that utilizes the services of trained Medical Assistants. To ensure this, a foundation is first developed in Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology and Computer Literacy with Keyboarding. Then, through a series of lectures and hands-on courses, the student gradually develops the administrative and clinical competencies required of a Medical Assistant. Finally, the student is sent to an anticipating healthcare facility for confidence building, as he or she works with real patients under supervision. Graduates will qualify to pass Medical Assistant Certification Exam.

MA100 Computer Keyboarding and Literacy
(45 Instruction Hours)
This course covers basic keyboarding, stressing both speed and accuracy.Additional production typing techniques are learned which include:business letters, styles, business forms, reports, manuscripts, tabulations and rough drafts. The course also is designed to introduce the student to use of personal computer. It will give the student a clear understanding of computer functions and tasks within the Windows environment.
MA150 Medical Terminology

This is a comprehensive course that provides an introduction to the basic structure of medical words allowing the student to build a professional vocabulary for the working medical professional. Students will learn word structure as well as prefixes, suffixes, roots, combining forms, and the formation of plurals. Emphasis is placed on spelling, definition of medical terms and correct pronunciation.
